How Does the Kinetico K5 Water System Work?
The Kinetico K5 drinking water system will significantly reduce heavy metals, such as lead, minerals, chemicals, and unpleasant tastes and odors. The Kinetico K5 has three stages:
Stage 1 – Pre-Filter: A five-micron filter will capture sediment and small particles while also reducing the chlorine in the water. The chlorine in the water will need to be reduced to protect the reverse osmosis membrane in the system.
Stage 2 – Reverse Osmosis Membrane: After the pre-filtration, the water will travel to the reverse osmosis membrane; this is where the primary cleaning is accomplished. As the water is put under intense pressure through the membrane, most of the minerals, chemicals, and other contaminants will be removed.
Stage 3 – Post-Filter: In this stage, the water will go through a post-filter, where any remaining contaminants will be removed.

Kinetico K5 Purefecta Guard
With the K5 Purefecta Guard, you can add even more protection against unsafe drinking water at home. The Purefecta Virus/Bacteria Guard is a medical-grade filter guard and microbiological purifier that can generate drinking water that is 99.99 percent free of viruses, bacteria, and protozoa. Although the coronavirus has not been proven to spread by water, the K5 Purefecta Guard is certified by the Water Quality Association (WQA) to remove the coronavirus and other viruses and bacteria as well as SARS.
Chloramine Guard: Decreases the chloramine from your water. Chloramine is commonly used in public water systems to clean the water. Adding chloramine will significantly clean the public water, but the chemical is no longer needed once the water reaches your home.
VOC Guard: Reduces organic contaminants, such as pesticides, lead, cleaning products, insecticides, and other chemicals.
Perchlorate Guard: Reduces perchlorate, a byproduct from rocket and jet fuel that is found in drinking water and groundwater.
Arsenic Guard: By working with the reverse osmosis membrane, the Arsenic Guard can remove pentavalent and trivalent arsenic from the water.
Mineral Plus: Instead of removing minerals, this cartridge will add calcium and magnesium, two beneficial minerals, to your water.
